Newfoundland

The Doctor’s House on the shores of Trinity Bay hosted our first Workshops in Wild Places event on June 1-8, 2019. Besides various exercises to connect with the land, and a full painting schedule, we had a couple of adventures that included a hike to a waterfall where we were treated to a Newfoundland ‘boil up’; and a long drive up the peninsula where we were fortunate to see 12 icebergs nestled into Brown’s Bay. On the way home, we visited the studio of the iconic and flamboyant Newfoundland artist, Clifford George. We enjoyed the beauty of the land, great camaraderie, delicious food and some terrific paintings.

Scotland

Situated on 2000 wild acres of land on the ocean, the sumptuous Dunskey House, south of Glasgow was the venue for our second Workshops in Wild Places. Our group was spoiled with luxurious rooms, gourmet meals, dinners in the Great Hall with a fire going in the hearth, discussions in the Drawing Room, and a spacious studio on the upper floor of the castle. Our adventures included a hike to the nearby lighthouse, where we had a hot picnic lunch, a tour of the walled garden, and a walk to the ocean one evening for happy hour on the beach. It was a workshop filled with beauty, laughter, friendship and painting.

Tofino

Located right on the beach at Cox Bay, Long Beach Lodge outside of Tofino, BC, was home for our November, 2019 storm-watching workshop. Inspired by the ocean and the big waves, our group did some beautiful work. Besides our daily outdoor meditation sessions, we walked the beach, watched the surfers, visited a carver in his shed on Chesterman beach, and best of all, we took a boat trip to Meares Island where we walked on the meandering boardwalk through the old growth forest to stand in awe of a 1000-year-old red cedar tree. We were treated to fabulous food, some deep sharing times, and of course, new friendships.
